The G7 Leaders’ Summit is an annual forum where leaders, ministers, and policymakers from seven of the world’s most advanced economies—Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States—along with the European Union, gather to discuss global issues and collaborate on solutions.
The G7 Leaders’ Summit is taking place from June 15 to 17, 2025.
Canada holds the presidency of the G7 in 2025. This year, the G7 Leaders’ Summit will be hosted in Kananaskis, Alberta.
Yes, you certainly can. While some areas around Kananaskis Village are temporarily closed, the majority of Kananaskis Country as well as the Town of Canmore are open to visitors. For a map of the closed areas, visit the RCMP website or the Alberta Parks website.
Kananaskis Country spans over 4,000 km² (1,500 sq mi) of provincial parks, trails, and recreation areas. Despite temporary closures and security presence, there is still plenty of space to explore, and many trails and outdoor areas remain open for visitors to enjoy.
Yes, definitely. While a meeting between the leaders of some of the world’s most advanced economies will cause attention by international media and political enthusiasts, it will also mean heightened RCMP and local police presence across the area, from the City of Calgary to the Town of Banff and the Town of Canmore in between.
Visitors are encouraged to be diligent and report any suspicious behaviour or activity by calling the Suspicious Incident Reporting line at 1-888-888-8888 or emailing [email protected].

With the G7 Summit bringing global attention to Canmore and Kananaskis, it’s essential for tourism operators to be well-prepared and informed about safety measures.
