South of Porcupine Creek and north of Mount Allan Viewpoint on Kananaskis Trail lies Mount Lorette Ponds, a postcard-perfect area accessed by a short walk from a day-use area. Follow the road signs on Highway 40 to find a large turnout with parking, then walk north to find the ponds on the west side of Kananaskis Trail. The ponds were once a loop of the Kananaskis River but were cut off from the rest of the river when a highway was built. Now the ponds are a pretty spot for nature viewing and fishing, as the ponds are stocked with several species of trout three times per year.
