This hike starts on Cougar Creek Trail in Canmore, following it for 0.8 kms before branching off onto the Lady Macdonald Trail. Short but very steep, the trail climbs to the ridge of Mount Lady MacDonald to the site of a former teahouse and helipad (now a bench), with stunning panoramic views of the Bow Valley and surrounding peaks.

The trail to the bench is challenging but well-maintained. Beyond it, the route to the summit is unmaintained and dangerous – a narrow ridge with sheer drops and loose rocks, suitable only for experienced scramblers. For most, the bench is the ideal and safe turnaround point.

Water access is very limited on this trail, so pack accordingly.

Distance: 6.4 km / 4 mi / Return (from the start of the Lady Macdonald trail)
Elevation: 1,200 m / 3,937 ft
