KT Laine (Montreal)

A study in subtlety, KT Laine’s folky anthems radiate a warm glow. Indebted as much to Cate Le Bon as she is to legends like Judee Sill, her songs are brought to life with languid vocals, plucked guitars, and a sincere presence.

Diamond Day (Montreal)

Diamond Day creates hazy dreamscapes from the foundations of shoegaze, where glitchy drums meet jangly, almost-exploding guitars. Béatrix Méthé (Rosier) and Quinn Bachand, who first met on the folk music scene, have successfully combined traditional sounds and electronic experimentation on their debut album, ‘Connect the Dots.’ Méthé’s magnetic vocals, catchy hooks, and stream-of-consciousness lyrics cut through Bachand’s billowing noise-pop soundscapes to create a retro-futuristic euphoria.
