How to get to Canmore

By Air

The closest airport to Canmore and Kananaskis is Calgary International Airport (YYC). From the airport, Canmore is just over an hour away by shuttle, bus, or personal vehicle.

By Shuttle/Bus

Once you’ve landed at Calgary International Airport, there are several shuttle, bus, or private transportation operators to get from the airport or from downtown Calgary to Canmore. We recommend reviewing these options to find the best fit for your travel needs. 

By Car

With a rental car or personal vehicle, the drive from Calgary to Canmore is just over one hour. 

In the winter, you can expect snow and ice on the roads. Be sure to drive with appropriate tires and equipment to keep yourself and your passengers safe.

Parking

Canmore offers convenient parking options for both short visits and extended stays. Hotels provide dedicated parking, and downtown features a paid parking system accessible via parking stations or the Blinkay app.

Paid parking is in effect in downtown Canmore seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. It is encouraged to walk, bike, or take the bus to reduce emissions and ease congestion in highly trafficked areas. Free parking is also available in certain lots. For more information about parking in downtown Canmore refer to the Town of Canmore parking maps.

For electric vehicles, public charging ports are available throughout the town:

  • ArtsPlace (950 8th Ave) – one Level 2 charger, free to the public
  • Petro Canada (1731 Mountain Ave) – four Level 3 (DC fast) chargers – available to the public for a fee
  • Peaks to Prairies station in Miner’s Hall parking lot (718 7th Street) – one Level 2 charger and one Level 3 (DC fast) charger – available to the public for a fee
  • Shops of Canmore (302 Old Canmore Road) – four Level 3 (DC fast) chargers – available to the public for a fee
