May 20 (11:00am - 12:00am)

May 23, 2023, marks the 150th anniversary of the founding of what is known today as the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. In recognition of the long-standing history of the Mounted Police in Canmore and the Bow Valley, the NWMP Barracks Provincial Historic Site and local RCMP detachments invite the community to the Barracks to mark this historic event. Along with meeting members of the local detachment, there will be RCMP vehicles for the children to see and perhaps be able to sit inside a cruiser and turn on the lights. Did you know that dogs have played a key role in policing in Canada since the late 1890s? Today, there are more than 150 RCMP Police Dog Service teams across the country. Come watch these amazing dogs demonstrate how they work in coordination with their RMCP officer partner. This is a free drop-in event being hosted as part of national RCMP 150 events.
